Books telling about the Great Patriotic War should take a worthy place in our memory, because they tell about the great feat of our long-suffering people. (1103 words) The story takes place in May 1942 at the 171st railway junction. The place turned out to be a "safe haven" among the ongoing hostilities throughout Russia. A couple of courtyards remained here, and the command, in case of a bombing, left two anti-aircraft installations. The Germans stopped shelling the passage, and the lives of the soldiers sent here flowed measured and pacified. Young fighters drank a lot and often stayed with local girls, which upset the elder Vaskov. He tirelessly wrote reports to the headquarters on new guys and asked to send a non-drinking platoon. And so, the non-drinker anti-aircraft gunners arrived disposition. Young girls. The booze and partying really stopped, but other characteristic disadvantages of such a “correct platoon” appeared - the girls laughed at the foreman (only 4 education classes), it was impossible to go into the platoon without knocking (squealing rose), once they went out to sunbathe completely, did everything according to the charter.
Rita Osyanina - squad leader. The war claimed the life of her husband, after which she decided to go to the front, leaving her son to her mother. Only Zhenka Komelkova, who was sent instead of the murdered submarine, could melt the heart of harsh Rita (they shot all her relatives in front of her). She was completely unlike the squad leader, despite the horrors experienced, Zhenya was cheerful and beautiful; Washes and combes the unprepossessing Galya Chetvertak, and the girls begin to be friends with the three of them.
The news of a possible transfer to the front line allows Rita to see her son, and at night she runs to him in the city. In one of these night sorties, Osyanina stumbles upon two German scouts who inadvertently came close to driving around with weapons and some sort of packages in their hands. Rita informs Vaskov of what he saw, hiding the reasons for being at such an early hour in that place. Vaskov notices Osyanina’s bare and wet legs, but says nothing - now there is a problem more important. The foreman, carefully considering the words of the anti-aircraft gunner, concludes that she encountered German saboteurs and determines the path of their movement - the railway. Vaskov decides to intercept the Germans and takes 5 girls with him. Since his soldiers are not battle-hardened, he tells and prepares his “detachment” for a clash with the enemy, encourages him with jokes. Ritka Osyanina, Lizka Brichkina, Pebble Chetvertak, Zhenya Komelkova and Sonya Gurvich with the foreman go to intercept saboteurs to Vol-lake. The main task is to get to the lake before the Germans, in order to have time to settle down and prepare, for this it is necessary to cut the path through the swamp. Fedot Evgrafych safely crosses his platoon through the swamp, only little Chetvertak leaves his boots in the swamp. On the shore she build a new one from a warm sock. There is a bewitching silence above the swamp, as if war had never visited these parts. They won a lot of time from the Germans, so the foreman allowed the girls to wash off the swamp mud and have lunch. Having reached the planned location, Vaskov orders to take the enemy immediately and not stick out from his position. The lost boot Chetvertak does not pass without a trace, and the girl becomes ill. The next morning, German assault rifles begin to show up from the forest, and it turns out that there are not 2, but 16. They are foremen understanding the deplorable situation: with him there is a detachment of 5 girls, and on that side there are 16 soldiers with a clearly defined task. Fedot Yevgafych sends the forester's daughter - Liza Bricichkina - to travel for help, informing them that they need reinforcements. The remaining forces play a show for saboteurs in order to scare off and force them to bypass: Zhenka runs out to swim naked, Fedot Evgrafych picks up and runs ashore unarmed and plays with Komelkova, all shouting loudly together, burning and chopping trees. The Germans leave, and the whole platoon laughs with tears in their eyes, they still do not know what the worst is to come ...
Lisa liked the foreman, and she flew with a message to the headquarters, introducing their future life. She has not yet known love; once father invited a young forester to their house, Lisa felt attracted, but only on the last day decided to come to him in the hayloft, but he drove her away, and in the morning left a note in which he called to study. It bloomed in anticipation, and then war came. So now, all in her thoughts, Lisa forgets about the sleds near the conspicuous pine tree and wades through the slimy swamp to the touch, stumbles, loses the path and dies.
Vaskov and Rita go on reconnaissance and decide to change their location. Osyanina leads the girls to a new place, forgetting the foreman's pouch. Gurvich runs after him. In the distance, a faint sound is heard, and the foreman already understands what this silent scream means. With Komelkova, she returns to her previous position and finds a dead Sonya. The foreman furiously avenges the enemies, he pounces on the coming "Fritz", kills one himself, and the second finishes Komelkova with a butt, saving the commander. Fedot is hard on the death of the anti-aircraft gunner, but the emotions on Zhenya’s face, after the first complete murder, are even worse. He explains to the girl that the enemies are not people and not animals, but fascists. A small detachment buries Gurvich. Having scanned the situation from behind the stone, Vaskov sees the Fritz walking on them; the oncoming battle begins, which again leads the enemy astray. Pebble Chetvertak does not withstand stress, throws weapons and falls to the ground. After the battle, the girls will condemn her for cowardice, but the foreman will justify it by uneducation and she will be taken to the next intelligence for training, although she understands in advance that it is in vain. Galya Chetvertak is an orphan and lives in a fantasy world, her ideas about the war are very romantic. Sonya’s death reveals the realities of what is happening. Scouts see the bodies of the dead: there are 12 “Fritzs” left. They are hiding in an ambush, but Chetvertak again gives in to fear and runs across the Germans. Automatic queue. Vaskov's detachment remained in the amount of 2 anti-aircraft gunners, and he is ready to do everything to save the remaining girls from death. He shoots back and tries to drag the saboteurs away from his fighters. He is injured and hides in a swamp. There he finds all 5 shed by the pine tree and bitterly realizes that Lizka Brichkina climbed into the swamp without help, and the skirt that appears on the surface of the swamp confirms the fear - she died. Now you need to rely only on yourself.
Vaskov accidentally enters the hut with saboteurs, they leave the explosives and leave. One foreman kills and selects weapons. In the same place where Zhenya Komelkova recently bathed naked in front of the Germans, the foreman and the remaining girls collide. He reports the death of Chetvertak and Lisa, everyone understands that the next battle will be the last.
The battle begins on the shore: Rita is injured in the stomach with a fragment of a grenade (before her death she tells the foreman about her son, his name is Albert, and asks not to forget about him after the war), Komelkova shoots herself to the last bullet and takes him deeper into the thicket of Germans, gets the wound also dies. Vaskov doubts whether the channel was worth the lives of the dead anti-aircraft gunners. Osyanina assures that a whole homeland stood behind this channel, that it was for her that they went into battle. Later, a shot is heard - Rita finished her torment.
Embittered, Vaskov bursts into the sleeping Germans, kills one, binds the remaining four and leads to a trip. Exhausted, with a wound in his hand, he smuggles all the prisoners through the swamp and, realizing that he has brought saboteurs to the point of departure, he falls down without strength.

Later, from a letter from a tourist, we learn about the arrival of a gray-haired man without a hand and a certain captain-missile named Albert on the quiet lakes. They were once looking for those who had given their lives for their homeland here, they wanted to bury. The author of the letter notes what dawns are quiet here ...
