Each of us plays a social role in the team where we are, communicate and live. In the course of human life, a reputation is formed - the opinion of others about his business or personal qualities. To reveal this definition, I will turn to examples from the literature.
In Turgenev's novel Fathers and Sons, the protagonist has a scandalous reputation in society. He is a nihilist, a man who does not recognize traditional values. His credo is denial. He constantly argues with elders, breaks conventions, lives and speaks differently from other people. You can expect anything from him, so the Kirsanov seniors are afraid of the guest. For scientific speeches, as you see, Bazarov does not recognize the people for whom he is trying to change the world. The common people do not understand the doctor, for them he is a stranger. Kirsanov Jr. is drawn to the amazing and ambiguous reputation of his comrade, imitates him, because in his youth people tend not to be like others and look for an original style of behavior. However, such an opinion of the entourage will play a cruel joke with the hero: Odintsova will reject his feelings, and in difficult times no one will approach and comfort him, because everyone thinks that Eugene does not feel and loves no one.
In Griboedov’s play “Woe from Wit,” Sophia creates a bad reputation for Chatsky. She declares him crazy, and hearing quickly turns into universal confidence in his illness. The society rejects Alexander, laughs at him and his just words, and all because of the reputation of a freethinker and a strange person who does not like everything. Against Chatsky is the fact that he recently returned to his homeland, that is, he learned something unknown abroad. Therefore, everyone unconditionally believes that the guest was damaged in the mind. Alexander understands that now no one takes him seriously. He voluntarily goes into exile, does not want to deal with a guided environment that believed the speculation, and not his eyes. Such is the significance of reputation: it shapes fate and decides the fate of the individual in society.
Thus, reputation is an assessment of the environment that is given to a person throughout his life. It is easy to spoil it, but it is very difficult to restore it. However, without it, however unfair it may be, a personality cannot exist.
