(284 words) The problem of moral decay accompanies literature for many centuries until today. Modern writers, too, with hunting and piercing pain in their souls raise the question of moral - and as a result - of intellectual degradation. The Soviet writer Nikolai Nosov very fully and expressively, in my opinion, reveals the theme of morality (or, rather, immorality) in the story “Akimych (Doll)” from the collection “Doll”.
The narrative opens with landscapes memorable to the narrator of their native places, near Lipino. Once there was a deep river flowing, and now only "... they are circling, they can’t escape chips, algae sticking bottles upside down, fragments of the ubiquitous polystyrene ...". From the first lines, the reader sees the embodiment of indifference to nature in modern society. Most people were so carried away by the new world of technological innovations that they completely forgot about their home - the environment. What can be said about such a society?
The climax of the story is the image of a doll thrown by the road near the school. This toy, stripped, desecrated, and poured with cigarette butts, is shown to the narrator by the carrier Akimych, whom they once saw by the river. Now he works as a school watchman and every day he sees a terrifying picture of the tormented attribute of childhood. Akimych says that this is far from the only case that he often sees this, and his heart is bleeding not only because the doll is so similar to a person and so disfigured, but also because people do not pay attention to it at all.
That is what a society indifferent to evil has come to. The symbol of childhood, broken, crippled, soiled and thrown into the ditch, brings the military man to tears and frenzy, but does not care about a simple adult, teacher, or parent. For Nosov, this story is a desperate call to change his mind, look around and realize what evil can give rise to indifference. And then we can correct everything, bury our sins, as Akimych buried the doll: in the earth, humanly. We can try, even if you don’t bury everything.
P.S. However, the writer - it must be emphasized - does not at all call for burying toys in the ground. Plastic and rubber are practically non-degradable materials that harm the soil and the environment as a whole. The author uses the doll only as a symbol, in no case indicating such actions in real life.
